Landmark

Sun Valley Resort

Is your enterprise the landmark in your community?  In these days of specialization, being the signature organization is a reasonable goal.  Too often we use other causes as a landmark to direct people to our organization.  How often do we say, ‘we are next to ____’  Or, ‘we are like ____ but just smaller.’  Why not have a goal to be the landmark in your sector?  What would it take to be the reference point for others?

Inside vs Outside

Two frequent approaches to creative thinking.  One is to think outside the box.  The other is to push at the edges (hat tip Seth Godin).  Thinking outside the box requires a lot of trust and a willingness to abandon the current platform.  Pushing at the edges starts from a known point and expands outwards.  Both are powerful and offer remarkable results.  Knowing when to employ each one is critical.

To prove my point here are some of my inside and outside photographic moments (all sets and creations courtesy of H).

Post Scarcity Economy

How would the post scarcity economy change philanthropy and the social sector?  What if a cause did not need to spend the majority of its time raising funds to support itself?  What could be accomplished with all the extra bandwidth?  How would it change the make-up of a board if the accumulation of donors was not longer the greatest challenge?  Which causes would cease to exist and which would thrive?  Would it alter which organizations you support or follow?

The Five People You Hang Out With

National Park Annual Pass

When you invest in yourself the metric of impact is how it changes the lives of those around you.

If you could invite only five people to join you on a grand adventure, who would compose your expedition team?  What super power does each member posses?  What does the composition of the team say about you as a person and leader?  What change would you seek?

Are you already on this trek?  If not, why?
