Defending or Earning

Are you defending a position or earning the merits to receive a ranking? Two different mindsets and approaches.

Do you start your board service believing you need to maintain the achievements accomplished by those who preceded you, or do you believe your board term is an opportunity to navigate the unknown and leverage your strengths on the organization’s behalf?

Off the Map

What if you started your next planning session by adopting four mindsets? How would your approach be different if you took a playful and irresponsible approach? What does a serious irresponsible process reveal? By taking on mindsets that are not typical in our practice, we open up conversations that inhabit our blind spots.

Direct to the Destination

Technically, the pilots could turn the plane in the pictured scenario and attempt to go directly to the airport. The probability of a successful landing is extremely low. It is in the best interest of the plane, passengers, and crew that the flight passes the destination to line up on a final approach that is practiced, planned, and highly predictable.

How might we avoid heading directly to our destination when we are not likely to reach it safely (or with the intended impact)? How might we plan how to arrive, not just focus on connecting the dots between two locations?
